Tom (Lloyd) Lyga, Marketing/Advertising Major

Yo! Whats up Champlain?

My name is Tom Lyga and I am a sophomore from Cazenovia, NY studying Marketing/Advertising at Champlain College. I have been a Student Ambassador on campus for about a year and a half now. I absolutely love it here; the college, the city, and the students. When you combine them all together you are left with a trifecta of pure awesomeness. The winter is my favorite time of year up here (it lasts most the school year!) because of all the snow. We have been getting dumped on so far this semester and it has made the skiing/snowboarding a blast! The picture to the right is an image that was taken at the top of Sugarbush. You can't see it that well in the picture, but Lake Champlain is clearly visible from this point on the mountain. If you are a skier or snowboarder, then Champlain has some amazing deals that you will want to consider. We have a season pass deal with Sugarbush that only costs $100. That is only $10 more than a regular Saturday ticket! We have an even cheaper deal that grants you access to the smaller of the two peaks for just $30. If the season pass isn't really down your alley or you just want to go for a day trip, we offer extreme discounts on this too. If you sign up with the school, you can go on multiple trips to different mountains in the area for just $10 a day. That includes transportation and your lift ticket.
Another thing that I am getting involved with right now is a fun competition called the Elevator Pitch Competition. This is a competition where your have an "idea" and you have to pitch it to someone with a 90 second time limit, as if you saw them in an elevator. Your "idea" could be anything from a business idea that you have, a job/internship that you want, or a special cause that you feel needs funding. Its a very high energy environment with very little time commitment. I just went to the info meeting last night and it sounds like a blast. Champlain had over 70 people register to participate this year. That just about double the amount of people that they had last year. The prizes for each category are:

First: $500
Second: $300
Third: $100

As you can see there is a lot of money in this competition. With three categories and three winners from each category, nine people will walk away from the competition with some extra money in their pocket, not to mention a very good resume stuffer. Ted, another Student Ambassador, is also going to be participating in the Elevator Pitch Competition, but trust me, I'm not worried about that (jk)... Let the competition begin!

P.S. Feel free to contact me through Facebook if you have any questions about being a student on campus or about anything I mentioned in this post
